THANK YOU, TES PTO, FOR A WONDERFUL LUAU!

Thank you to all the families who came out to our annual PTO Luau last Friday! We had a blast and so did the kids. It is events like these that make our community so special. We want to thank PTO President Sarah Sullivan and her team of volunteers for organizing a fabulous evening. See you at our next PTO outing!

In anticipation of Friday's luau, Music Teacher Mrs. Sims taught a lesson on Hawaiian instruments. Students learned about clapping with coconut shells, how a Pahu Drum is constructed, and Mrs. Sims showed them her Uli Uli  rattles (seen in the photo). They are feathered gourds filled with seeds and wrapped in rattan. They learned the refrain of a song about a Coconut ("Niu" in Hawaiian) Tree and played a choreographed sequence with rhythm sticks. It was a fun class!
